The George Washington University men's lacrosse team opens up its 2016 regular season schedule against fellow Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Northwest Division rival, Liberty University. The game will be played at 2pm at the Liberty University Lacrosse Complex, 2200 Liberty Mountain Dr, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
The game marks the fourth between the two teams in as many years, with the Flames besting the Colonials in each game to date. Liberty is currently winless in two 2016 contests, losing to 13th-ranked Boston College 11-12 and to number 4 ranked Georgia Tech 7-15.
The match-up between the Colonials and the Flames will be strength against strength: Liberty is known for a high octane offense that posted nearly 12 goals per game in the 2015 season, while the Colonials have a deep and experienced defensive unit lead by senior captain defenders Alex Santangelo and Jack Ferrell, and senior goalkeeper Justin Klimczyk.
The X-factors for Liberty are juniors Ryan Miller at attack and Brett Bernardo at midfield. Miller posted 68 points in 2015, while Bernardo posted 69. Both players are off to strong 2016's with Miller netting 6 points and Bernardo grabbing 7 of his own.
